Long Description: MapPoint Web Services enable applications to find locations, render maps, retrieve driving directions, and find points of interest (e.g. ATM, Banks, Gas Stations...) near locations. There is a bit of a learning curve to using MapPoint Web Services due to their power and flexibility. This project provides a small and simple .NET library that makes beginning to use MapPoint Web Services much simpler to use. Demos and PowerPoint files provide context for use.

There is a zip file with all of the content. When you unzip it you will find the MapPointWebServiceHelper.sln (Visual Studio solution) file in the base (root) directory. This solution contains three projects and two PowerPoint presentations chronicling the use of the MapPointWebServiceHelper.

Here are some details about the projects. I set the MapPointDemoAppVB to be the startup project. So if you run this solution you should see the VB examples.

MapPointDemoApp – This is a C# demo application. There is a main demo form with buttons that open the other forms. To keep things simple I put one demo in each form.

Currently there are forms that demonstrate the following:
1. Find a location and render a map of that location (address)
2. Find two locations and render a route map (e.g. map between two locations with route highlighted)
3. Find two locations and list the directions for that route (e.g. actual directions for getting between two locations)

MapPointDempAppVB – This is a VB.NET demo application.

MapPointWebMapSample - this is an ASP.NET VB web application using the MapPoint Web Service Helper to find and render maps and routes in web applications. If you are using web applications for maps and routes look here.

1. Find a location and render a map of that location (address)
2. Find two locations and render a route map (e.g. map between two locations with route highlighted)

MapPointWebServiceHelper – this is the class (code) that does all the behind the scenes work to access and simplify MapPoint Web Services. Overall this code is the highest quality and best example code in the overall solution.

MapPointWebServiceHelper.ppt – a PowerPoint that tells how to get started with the MapPointWebServiceHelper library.

MobileMapPointWebServiceHelper.ppt – a PowerPoint that tells how to get started with Windows Mobile version of the MapPointWebServiceHelper library.

Special thanks to Dr. Richard Born of Northern Illinois University Operations Management and Information Systems department for his great feedback and insights on the functionality of the library and for the insane great PowerPoint slides that document its use.
